I'm having a fantastic time biking. The only problem is that I want to stop in every small town, because each is so cool. Right now I am in a tiny village called Malinalco, which has some facinating ruins on the hillside above. Yesterday I rode from Toluca, just outside Mexico City. Getting from the center of the city to the bus station (to get to Toluca) was the hardest part of the ride. Biking in Mexico City is certainly a challenge.

Last night I camped by the side of the road, if for no other reason than to justify all this camping gear I'm carrying. I had a fantastic view of the foothills of the Sierras and the stars.

Yesterday was a lot of climbing, but today was mostly downhill, and I smoked, clocking in at 70+ kph. After lunch, I am heading to Chalma, a place where hundreds of pilgrims are flocking right now. I encountered a group of about 100 youths biking there. For a while, I had my own support vehicle!

I don't know if I'll see a computer between here and Oaxaca, so I'll have to stick to email updates for now.

    peter
