Well that was interesting. I've never seen a lightning bolt so close up before. If you're close enough, after the initial flash, you can see wisps of deionized air light up around where the bolt was.

I was on my way to Huajuacan, but it didn't look like I was going to make it. I was still over 10km away, and it was getting dark. Off in the distance, a lightning storm was approaching. I was prepared to camp outside, but I wanted to get away from the top of the mountain first. Unfortunately, what looked like the descent down was just another curve in the road. The bolts kept getting closer, and then the rain hit. Admitting defeat, I found a car off to the side of the road and asked for help. They offered me a ride - there were four of us riding in the cab of a small pick-up.

Anyway, I'm not going to tell the whole story now. I just had a hot shower and dinner, and I'm happy again.

    Hopefully, no rain tomorrow.

    peter
