I'm in the Oaxacan valley now, just oer a day away from the city of Oaxaca. Today was brutal. Two huge climbs, one in the AM and one in the PM, with descents. Lots of dirt roads. The second descent was fantastic - beautiful scenery. Red earth formations reminiscent of Arizona.

Right now I'm camped off of a small gravel (actually rock) road. Not many stars to see because of the cloud cover, but there are fireflies to make up for it. Luckily, there were clear skies this morning, but it may rain yet.

I'm getting really tired. Trying to ride 100k/day for 7 days uphill with a loaded touring bike is strenuous, to say the least. I'm ready for a break.

    peter
