I found where they were hiding all the really nice people of Nicaragua - an island called Ometepe, in the middle of lake Nicaragua. Life is simple here, but very nice. I am going to stay through the beginning of the holy week, if for no other reason than I can't get a boat off the island until then.

The island has two large volcanos, and one of them, Conception, is a perfectly shaped cone. I climbed it today - what a workout! At the top...50kt winds and clouds. Good thing I dragged 15lbs of gear up.
