I arrived today early in bus from La Paz. Potosi is a mining town famous for silver, and the mines are still active. The conditions are what you would expect for the 19th century; men with picks and dynamite in a labyrinth of narrow tunnels. Gifts of coca leaves made the miners happy.

Tonight, another night bus, this time to Uyuni, where I begin a 4 day tour. I will probably be out of contact until I get back to La Paz.

    peter
