15 FEB - Olympia, Greece

Date received: Thu Feb 15 2001, 05:20 AM PST

I'm finally out of Italy, and into Greece. I arrived yesterday morning by ferry from Bari to Patras, and then took a bus more or less straight to Olympia. I met up with an American from Florida on the ride over, and he and I have been hanging out sharing travel stories.

The weather once I got to Greece was great; sunny and warm, but this afternoon, a storm moved in, and now it is pouring with rain. In the morning, we went to the ancient ruins of Olympia, the birthplace of the the olympic games. It is an impressive place. In a couple of hours, I am going to head south, towards Mythos. I have to go to Tripoli first, so I will probably get stuck there tonight, since there probably won't be any connecting buses.

I really like the feel of Greece so far. It is definitely off season, and as a result everywhere is pretty mellow, but it is still great to visit.
