30 MAR - Nairobi, Kenya

I don't know what it is about this city, but I always have a hard time getting out of here. There isn't any great attraction, it's just that I get so caught up in little logistical things that I want to do that I lose track of time.

It was becoming clear that I wouldn't be able to finish another story and catch up on all of my email if I left this evening, so I leave tomorrow evening. I am going straight to Mbale, just across the Ugandan border. I plan on spending a day hiking near Mt. Elgon before heading to Jinja. The plan is to circle around Lake Victoria, working my way south towards Zambia.

I'm not sure if they're going to let me out of Kenya; they changed the visa rules since I arrived, so my visa is no longer valid. I may have to pay US$50 for another visa just to be able to leave the country.

Tomorrow I will be doing more errands, and catching up on more email. Once I leave Kenya, I will probably have sporatic contact at best, since power is a problem in Uganda, just as it has been for the past few weeks.
